Fire On The Salton

A sunset on the Salton Sea

Today’s image comes from our recent trip to the Salton Sea.  Several of us from AZ made the trip to California to hook up with our buddy Heath O’fee for a little two day camping trip.

We spent Friday at the Joshua Tree National Park and then drove down to the Salton Sea on Saturday to see what trouble we could get into.  Saturday was spent shooting the lake at a few different spots where we eventually finished out at Bombay Beach.  There is not much left to Bombay Beach but the community still has a handful of people who live there.  The area is pretty depressed and my guess is those still living there are doing so not by choice.

As the sun started to set, we all fanned out along the shore to pick our spot for what was going to be a pretty good light show by Mother Nature.  The image above was an 80 second exposure using a 10 stop filter.  I’m pretty sure just about everyone else did the same (except maybe for Mike 🙂 ).

I love the symmetry of the sunset on the water with this shot which was made possible by the long exposure.  The sunset capped off a great weekend with the guys.  Be sure to check out the blogs of Mike Olbinski, Rick Young, Chris DeAngelis, Heath O’fee, and Doug Wise for more images from this trip.

Until next time…
