An Arizona sunset over South Mountain.

Today’s image brings about all kinds of visuals to me.  I stare at this and think volcano, or the bowels of Hell are opening up, or this is some sort of post apocalypse aftermath.  But in the end it is another incredible display of Mother Nature.

I captured this sunset a few weeks back as a micro burst had descended on Phoenix.  If you look to the right hand side of the image that haze you see is a dust storm moving towards Phoenix (just off camera right).   I was perched on South Mountain which sits about 1,000 feet higher than the city so I had a pretty good seat.  At the time it didn’t look like that big of a storm but later, reports would show downed trees and power lines.  Never underestimate Mother Nature.

I debated rather to post this 5 shot HDR image or just one of the brackets.  This image shows some detail in the foreground which I thought added to the drama and post apocalypse feel.  The neutral bracket looked pretty good as well but didn’t have quite the detail.  Maybe I’ll post that one at another time when I’m feeling a good AZ sunset. 🙂

Until next time…
