Last Friday I had the day off so I had a little bonus camera time.  Woohoo!  It doesn’t happen often so I made the most of it.

Towards the end of the day I found myself on this train track out in the Arizona desert.  Why I really don’t know, but it is no secret that photographers love shooting train tracks.  Rusted steel, weathered wood, and leading lines just adds up to picture goodness.  You can put a bride on there, a high school senior or even an adorable 5 year old in a pink dress and walk away with a killer image.  So what’s not to love?

The one thing you might see too much of is the shot with the camera right in the middle of the tracks looking straight ahead.  Now don’t get me wrong.  If the composition is there, then by all means that works.  However if there is nothing there to support it then one needs to get a little creative.  For this image I had nothing really on the sides or at the “end” to work into the shot.  So I chose to shoot across the tracks to create some interesting leading lines.  I think it works pretty well here for this setup.

One last note about this shot.  I was tempted to go b&w, but those warm wood tones begged to stay in color.

Until next time…
