Today’s post comes from the city by the bay, San Francisco.  This was shot from the ferry boat that takes you to & from Alcatraz.

I can still remember trying to line this shot up.  Everyone on the boat had gone to the side to snap their own memory of the setting sun so getting a position was tough.  Sometimes you have to use some defensive basketball skills and box people out of the spot. 🙂  Of course getting your spot with 100 people around you is only half the battle.  Somehow you have to get a steady shot while those people are bumping you and the boat is moving up and down.   Most photogs have been in this spot.  Let’s just call it the thrill of the hunt.

On a side note I would like to recommend taking the ferry over to Alcatraz if you are ever in San Fran.  Its definitely something you won’t see on most vacation trips.

Until next time…

  1. I am totally diggin’ this shot, Chris! I love the emotion and the drama that silhouette of the sailboat creates in this image. The colors & tones here are just so sweet, and the composition is compelling my friend!!

  2. Love it! Great shot! I sometimes wonder how some other folks shots come out when there is a scramble like that… Were there a lot of flashes firing? 😉
